The Bible says words aptly spoken are like apples of gold in settings of silver. If I had a silver bowl full of gold apples, not only would it be a thing of great beauty, but obviously one of very great value, too. I want to point out the great power we have in our tongues to do wonderful, beautiful things. And one way is through timely words-aptly spoken words. They are delightful.

Have you ever thought about the damage that you do yourself by speaking inappropriately? I want to focus on how the words we speak impact us. You may be surprised to see just how your life has been affected by your own words.

Undoubtedly you know someone who just cannot stop talking-just a real motor mouth. We all know people like that. Do you like to be with them? Probably not that much. But talking too much is more than just an irritating bad habit. We need to see what God has to say about talking too much.

You've heard the jingle that says, 'Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.' Well, don't believe it-not for a minute. Words can do more damage than sticks and stones could ever inflict.

Everybody has missing pieces, don't we? For some of you, it's a marriage you've always wanted but don't have. Or a child that has not yet been given to you. Or a job you want, or financial security. These missing pieces are different for each of us.

Do you think it's realistic for us to be able to thank God for the missing pieces of our lives? I believe not only is it realistic, it's the only way we'll know real peace and contentment in our lives.

God began showing me a few years ago that the missing pieces were actually a blessing. Why? Because without them I might have been lulled into thinking I was self-sufficient and never seen my true needy state.

Being Thankful for the Missing Pieces - Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

All of us have something that's missing, don't we? What I've come to learn-and am still learning-is that instead of being controlled by the missing pieces, I can be thankful for them. I emphasize that I am learning this principle of being thankful for the missing pieces. But as I've started to grasp this truth, I've found such freedom and contentment.

Have you ever met anyone who truly 'had it all'? I doubt it; in fact, I'm quite certain that no one has everything they want. We all have missing pieces of our lives. What are those missing pieces in your life - those things you really want but you don't have?
