PROGRAM D-5914

This New Year’s Eve, as we face the beginning of 2010, is a very good time to make some commitments to start the New Year right. You can call them new year’s resolutions or whatever you want to call them, but the important thing is to just take some extra time to consider what you need to do this year so that you’re more effective for the Kingdom of God in 2010.
As parents we measure the growth of our children and expect them to “grow up” and become more mature each year. Well, if you and I are healthy children of God, born into his family through faith in Jesus Christ, then God should be able to measure our growth each year, too. I want to make sure that I’m growing more like Jesus in this New Year, not just treading water or backsliding. But in order to keep growing, I know that I must be very intentional about it and set some specific goals and disciplines for myself.
I’ve talked about some things I want to do this year to get started right, and I hope you will be inspired to do the same. On this last day of 2009, I want to resolve to memorize more scripture this year, to hide more of God’s Word in my heart, so, as the Psalmist said, that I might not sin against God (Psalm 119:11). I’m going to tackle memorizing Romans chapter 8 this year.
Have you ever really committed to memorizing a significant portion of God’s Word? It’s a great discipline for keeping you mentally sharp, but more importantly, it truly will transform your thought life as you reprogram your mind with truth from God’s Word. And Romans 8 is just chocked full of life-transforming truth.
I’ve learned that it really helps to put passages on cards for memorizing, so if you will join me in starting the new year off right by memorizing Romans 8, I’ll be glad to send you a set of these cards to help you. And then, when you have memorized it completely and perfectly, you can sign the card, which will be included, stating that you have memorized it, return it to us, and I’ll send you one of my books as a gift. That’s a good deal, don’t you think? Of course, the greatest benefit is not the free book, but the blessing that will come to you by memorizing Romans 8.
So, join me in starting your new year right by memorizing Romans 8. You can memorize at your own pace, however long it takes you, that’s okay. Just keep working at it, and when you’ve done it, let me know—I’ll take your word for it—and I’ll be glad to send you one of my books as a reward.
