Weekend

Ready to Give an Answer - Part II

Christianity is a minority group. This shouldn't surprise us, because Jesus told us we'd always be a minority. In Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus said:

Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Ready to Give an Answer - Part I

I want to begin by asking some questions.

  • Have you have ever preached a sermon at work?
  • Have you given the four spiritual laws over the PA system in your office?
  • Do your co-workers beg you to take them to church with you?

Morning Prayers

I want to share with you some morning prayers that come from a wonderful devotional classic entitled A Diary of Private Prayer by John Baillie. It is one of my favorite little books, containing prayers for morning and evening for a month. Dr. Baillie uses some old-fashioned words, but his thoughts are right on for us today. It has blessed and challenged me many times, so I just want to share some of these morning prayers with you.

Biblical Beauty Tips

I wonder how many books and articles have been written on how to be beautiful, how to stay young, how to look good? It’s a topic most of us care about. I want to give you some beauty tips—and these are for men as well as women. I promise you, these are guaranteed to improve how you look to others.

Growing Deep to Reach Wide - Part 2

Part 2

Growing Deep to Reach Wide: Grounded in Truth, Reaching our Worlds.   This is the theme we chose for this year’s weekend getaway, and when we are choosing our theme, we are very intentional about it. I am not looking for a well-turned phrase or a catchy title. I’m looking for words that will convey our focus for the weekend.

Part 1

You may have heard the expression that the nature of Christian faith in some areas is a mile wide and an inch deep. In other words, their faith is shallow, it hasn’t grown deep. What does that mean? It just means that even though a person makes a decision to be a Jesus-follower and to trust in him for salvation, they have never deepened their knowledge of God or their understanding of Scripture. And as a result, their faith is shallow.

Meet the Man in My Life - Part 2

After many foolish choices and decisions, after walking away from my commitment to Jesus Christ, after "doing it my way," I came back to God and promised to follow and obey him if only he would restore some peace in my life. I had become a virtual emotional roller-coaster, and finally I just couldn't handle it any longer.

Meet the Man in My Life - Part 1

In John 4 you will find the familiar story of the woman at the well. She is making her daily trek to the town well one mid-day. Undoubtedly she chose to go after the other women made their trip in the cool of the morning to avoid their snide remarks and rejection. After all, her reputation preceded her—she had been married five times and was living with some guy now that was not her husband.
