Care & Share: Discipline and The Snooze Alarm Syndrome

Dear Friend,

Discipline is one of those ten-letter words we’d rather not hear! It’s certainly not my favorite word, but I’ve learned that without imposing discipline in my life, I’ll never do all the “good works which God prepared in advance” for me to do (Ephesians 2:10). So, I’ve learned how to be disciplined and wrote a book, The Snooze Alarm Syndrome, to help others who struggle with it, as I have.

Recently I talked about “Dying for Lack of Discipline” on the radio, emphasizing the importance of overcoming procrastination. One listener wrote:

I am adopting your advice about procrastination: “Do it now and do it right.” There’s a rock song that says, “I want it all, and I want it now.” I’m keeping the tune and changing the lyrics to “I’ll do it now and I’ll do it right!” When I am tempted to put something off, I just start singing to prompt myself into action. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. . .”

What a great idea! Even if you don’t know the song she refers to, you could sing the words to any tune at all, and use it to help you overcome procrastination. Believe me, you would see amazing results from implementing that discipline in your life.

I leave for our ministry in Kenya, Africa on July 7, returning on the 25th. You’ll find my itinerary on our website, and I hope you’ll remember to pray for us.

The summer months are very lean financially, so your continued support is needed and appreciated.

Have a blessed month!
